Sod fails for one reason: bad prep. Laid on compacted clay or old weedy turf, it never roots in. So most of the work happens before the first roll comes off the pallet.
We strip the old lawn or clear the area, grade it so water runs away from the house, loosen the soil and add what it needs. Then the sod goes down tight, with staggered seams, cut clean around beds and walks, and rolled so it makes contact.
Willamette Valley soil is heavy clay in a lot of neighborhoods. We prep for that, and we'll tell you exactly how to water it for the first few weeks so it takes.

When to book in Salem
Spring and early fall are ideal in Salem. The ground is workable and the weather does half the watering. Summer sod works with steady irrigation. Winter is too wet to grade properly.

How soon can I walk on new sod?
Light foot traffic after about two weeks. Give it three to four weeks before mowing or heavy use.
How much do I water new sod?
Daily for the first couple of weeks, enough to keep the soil under it moist. We give you a simple schedule on install day.
Can you sod over my old lawn?
We don't recommend it. Sod laid over old turf roots poorly and the old weeds come through. We remove it first.
